We Have Gone Cashless

Hi Fellow MGC Members

The depths of Winter and COVID restrictions are things of the past. Bring on Summer (without the Southeaster!)

Our golf rounds have been pleasingly buoyant and turnover in both the bar and halfway houses has been good. To quote our treasurer “A return to normality is reflected in most of the trading related activities”.

The 12th fairway shift to the West is happening and we await the growing in of new sods. The walkway from the 13th tee has had new sods placed to the left of it and we await the growing in.

Advertising and Sponsorship: We have a few Tombstones/cement blocks at the Yellow Teeboxes available for advertising. In addition, we are reviving our Nearest the Pin (NTP) prizes on competition days. We have a few sponsors ready and waiting but do need more. For either of these matters please contact Peter Waison to discuss details.

Further news on the burnt building and the plans going forward will be made available to members as it filters through from the various architects with whom the sub-comm have been chatting with.

Our condolences to the loved ones of members who have recently passed away and our congratulations to Jo Elves on her 80th birthday.

MGC’s Centenary in 2025 approaches. I received NO response to my appeal in the last newsletter. Please contact myself or the General Manager with your proposal or offer of assistance.

This past weekend our Champion golfers took part in the WP Champions of Champions tournament at Parow GC. Sadly, there was no glory for Milnerton, but the grapevine says that our members who participated did our club proud…I thank you Gents and Ladies.

Yours in Millies Golf

Golf Course Report

Milnerton Newsletter March 2022

The 12th hole – we have marked out the fairway for cutting. We will be able to move the fairway right by about 4-8 metres depending on the part of the fairway. The greens keeping staff will be putting in new sprinklers in the coming weeks and will be laying grass sods in the sandy areas shortly also.

We will be endeavouring to make the 1st Tee box a lot more presentable. Would be nice to make it REALLY look good and create a good first impression of the course.

There is a lot of repair work needed to areas on the 9th and 10th fairways as there are patches with no grass on. Sods will be placed soon so can start the growing in process sooner rather than later.

We have some plans for the dune and erosion left of the 2nd tee box and this will be addressed very soon.

Water is still a major issue and we looking as adding extra water storage dams for the summer months as a priority.

Winter rains are here so please all fill in yours and others’ divots.

Yours in Golf.
