Hi Fellow MGC Members

A vibrant AGM was held on 29th March at the clubhouse. I cannot remember such a well-attended meeting at MGC. Thanks to all attendees as well as those who stood for office.

The results are as follows:

  • President: Shaun Buchanan
  • Vice President: Allan Biersteker (unopposed)
  • Captain: Colin Jacobs (unopposed)
  • Vice Captain: Billy o’Brien (unopposed)
  • Treasurer: Harry Todd
  • Board of Governors: Anthony Marais, Nat Yamey, Gary Bain, Niall Keller and Craig van Rooyen
  • Committee Members: Barton Gardner, Garreth Johnston, Harold Solomon, Shane Williams and Peter Waison.

The ladies AGM was held a week earlier and Ntsotiseng Morojele was elected as Lady Captain.

I wish all successful candidates a fruitful and rewarding 2022/3. To the Committee members, please see this as a 6 to 8 year commitment to MGC.

FIRE NEWS:

Our insurers have paid us out for both the building structure as well as the contents of the old clubhouse damaged in the fire of February 17th. The new committee will now propose what to do with the moneys.

WATER:

Our water supply problem from Potsdam Sewerage Treatment Works persists. Our 230mm supply pipe remains off since the first week of December. Our 110mm pipe flows intermittently and even if it were to flow “full-bore” 24 hours per day, it would only provide approximately 40% of our current needs. So, we are irrigating greens and tees and occasionally fairways, selectively. Winter is coming and the cooler weather is helping.

I intend holding a “strategy session” where we plot out our priorities for the next 5 to 10 years. If YOU are interested in an input then please contact me via email only: yep.jacobs@gmail.com.

Yours in Millies Golf
Colin (aka Jakes) Jacobs

We have a new Lady Captain

Milnerton Newsletter March 2022

Ntsoti Morojele was elected Lady Captain at the ladies AGM held on the 22nd March 2022. Here’s what she had to say.

Message from the new Lady Captain

I want to thank the ladies for placing their trust in me as their Lady Captain. It is indeed an honor & I look forward to a successful tenure. I am overwhelmed by the messages of encouragement & support I have received.

I would like to thank the members of the Ladies Committee for agreeing to stand in in their various portfolios. As we know the last couple of years due to the pandemic has been unusual & difficult period and has affected us collectively and individually. The Ladies Committee is excited about rebuilding the section to a lively & social group again.

I also look forward to working closely with the Club Management, Committee & staff to ensure that the coming year is as enjoyable as possible for our ladies.

I wish you all a safe & healthy year; and a great year of golf.

Ntsoti Morojele

League:

The mid-amateur league has concluded for another season with the club finishing third in their division. Looking back, we had 2 games go very close and if we had won an extra game in each match we would have contended for the top of the section. Sadly, not to be this year.
