Hi Fellow MGC Members
As we stand on the 3rd, 5th or 12th Tees we could be reminded of the Rhyme of The Ancient Mariner “water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink…” as we reflect on our current water shortages on the course. We have 2 effluent water supply lines from Potsdam Sewerage Treatment Works and currently the larger of the 2 has been shut down until the length of the pipe from Potsdam to Milnerton High School has been resleeved, due to multiple leaks. That leaves us with our own 100mm diameter dedicated line which runs fairly regularly at the time of writing. It does not give us sufficient water to irrigate ALL of the course, so we concentrate on Greens and Tees. Watering of fairways is currently a “luxury” but is being handled on an ad hoc basis. Winter should commence somewhere around Easter so that gives us about 7 weeks to hold out.
Much sand has been added to bunkers and plugged lies are now starting to occur. Generally the feedback from members is that they are better now but folks have to learn how to play out from softer lies.
Champion of Champions:
Congratulations to all of the winners on the day. History will record that you folks were CoC’s for 2020 and 2021. Special mention must go to Oom Herman Kuhn, aged 91years who won the Seniors division by shooting 86 gross.
Taking place on the weekends of 5-6 March and 12-13 March. I wish all competitors the very best of luck throughout the divisions. May the weather gods play ball too.
As I write, all reports and admin have been submitted to our insurers and we await their answers. Assessors, structural engineer, Fire Investigator, Building Inspector and other officials have all been on site and our General Manager has been swamped with admin. We are in the process of arranging alternate housing on our property for a rental fleet of golf carts, until we rebuild and take ownership of our own some time “down the road”.
Basheerah Molisie, our GM’s PA and events co-ordinator has resigned and will be leaving us at the end of February, having been with MGC for 9 years. We wish her well in her new venture.
A few weeks Saturday’s back Conrad Munting lost his Titleist Vokey 52 Gap Wedge on the course. It has not yet been handed in to the proshop. If you have it, please do the right thing and hand it in to our proshop as lost property.
Weeds on the course. Those of you who are avid gardeners would have noticed the beginnings of weeds on certain fairways and in the rough. Other than the green keeper spraying weed killer (which we do not want to do during the windy season) I ask members to each pull out 2 weeds per 18holes played. Imagine the difference we could make!
Beers in the satellite half-way house. Simply put, we do not have a liquor licence to sell alcohol at our satellite half-way house. In addition this applies to a random Golf Cart riding around the course selling beers. We are waiting on SAPS and the WP Liquor authorities to provide us with the “Plan” indicating our current permitted areas, so that we may apply to extend these permitted areas. Please be patient and know that we have requested this info from the authorities.
AGM: Diarise the date please: 29th March 2022 in the Sunset Lounge.
We welcome the following new members
From the Treasurers desk
Thank you for the opportunity of presenting the Treasurer’s report for the financial year ended 31 December 2021.
The continued international travel constraints due to the Covid-19 pandemic has put all the Golf Club operations under pressure in 2021 due to a large portion of the foreign tourists and golfers not being able to visit South Africa during 2021.
It is however pleasing that Milnerton Golf Club has remained resilient through the tough two year period and we are fortunate that our Golf Club continues to have a strong membership base, loyal South African visitor market and restaurant facility that generates our income.
Monthly Golf Fixtures & Results
Ladies Captain’s Corner:
Three of our members represented Milnerton at King David Mowbray on the 7th February in the Western Province Silver and Bronze cups. Our lady fixtures are well attended, and we had our first trophy event in February that was won by Jenny Maliepaard 2nd year in a row.
Congratulations to Claire Dinnie and Ros Howard that was chosen to play in the Western Province team against Boland at Paarl Golf club on Monday 21 February.
After numerous quotations and in-depth discussions for the right fabric, colour and cost effectiveness to reupholster our furniture in the ladies cloakroom the ladies committee. Has decided to not go into hasty decisions and will take more time to source better ideas and good quality fabric I am sure we will find the right supplier and upholsterer soon.
I am sure not only myself, but all our members must have been heartsore to hear of the devastating fire that destroyed our golf cart storage building. I am very grateful that no one was injured. I wish the Committee strength with all the decisions and plans to replace the carts and get the building rebuild.
I would like to thank Chris Wilson for his loyal and generous time serving on the Milnerton Golf Club Committee.
For all of you playing Club championships all the very best and may you all be winners.
This is my last monthly report to the committee as my term as Lady Captain comes to an end on the 22nd of March 2022.

Golf and Course Report
The Mid-Am League played their second game vs Strand Golf Club and the score ended in a draw of 4-4. Another close game.
They won their game on 26 February vs Royal Cape 5-3. Another close game and back to winning ways. Let’s hope the boys can go from strength to strength.
The course is doing OK with all the water problems we are suffering. Unfortunately, we finding ourselves in a bit of a survival mode.
Well done to Craig and his team for putting in the efforts and keeping us informed.
Good luck to all playing the Club Championship. I hope you achieve your goals and make great memories getting there.
Yours in Golf,
