Hi Fellow MGC Members

A successful Strategy Session was held on 21st April with the committee plotting and planning the way forward for the club. Some of the results of the plan are:

Short Term Priorities:

  1. Replace Golf Car Fleet
  2. Decide on Upgrading the Burnt out building
  3. Satellite Halfway House upgrade
  4. Improve the Overall Catering service
  5. Application of the Club’s Liquor Licence
  6. Dune Erosion at 2nd Tee Box and 6th Hole
  7. Redesign of 12th Hole to limit ball strikes
  8. Water Supply
  9. Security & Access Control
  10. Implement a Code of Conduct
  11. Constitutional amendments

Members of the committee have volunteered to address these priorities and will become answerable for progress on these issues. YOU may be asked to assist on any one of a number of sub-committees being assembled to address these priorities – please be positive and assist.

We have MGC’s centenary approaching in 2025 – if you are an events organiser/planner then please email/approach me with a proposal.

The President and I have agreed to holding a MGC President’s Cup on a Saturday. Essentially it is President versus Captain on the day. Watch this space and our social media platforms for more details – YOU could become famous!!

Thanks to VC Billy o’Brein for motivating for new floor covering in the passages, Proshop etc.. The new paintwork also lifts the general ambience of the clubhouse. The new panelling in the accounts and manager’s office are also a welcome addition to the cleaner lines of the clubhouse.

The greens will be cut shorter in the very near future and will then be back to their best once more. Work on reshaping the front bunker next to the 10th green should have started by the time you read this.

Yours in Millies Golf

Meet the Ladies Committee

The Ladies Section announced the 2022 office bearers at it’s AGM which was held on Tuesday 22 March 2022. They are:

  • President: Lorette Hegie
  • Captain: Ntsoti Morojele
  • Vice Captain: Judy Teixeira
  • Hon Secretary: Lesley MacFarlane
  • Hon Treasurer: Karien Van Heerden
  • Committee members: Ros Howard and Sylvia Crotz

Gabi Kutz-Wenzel stepped down as the Hon Treasurer after nine (9) years. She selflessly did our books even through some challenging times & when she couldn’t be at the Club in person.

Jill Biccari also resigned. She was responsible for among other things eclectic, league uniform, birdie/par trees and of course she was also our resident DJ.

I wish you both well in the future.

Ladies Club Champion

She did it again. Casey Hattle defended her position at this year’s Club Championship to win 3rd time in a row. Congratulations Casey.

Flying the Millies Flag

In the 1st quarter of the year some of our ladies have had some exciting golf experiences. I look forward to more of these kind of stories in the year.

Keneilwe Moloko played in the Didata ProAm held at Fancourt in February 2022 and finished 8th overall. Those of us that watched the game remember her birdie putt on the 18th hole on the last day!!! We are so proud of you Keneilwe.

Lorette Hegie was involved in the live scoring at the Investec Ladies Golf Tournament held at the Steenberg Golf Club 30th March – 2nd April 2022. Despite the poor weather, she witnessed some great golf and amazing hospitality by the hosting club.

On the 16th April 2022 Tanya Williams had a hole-in-one at Trump National Golf Club (Jupiter, Florida) in the USA, on the 4th Par3. Congratulations Tanya!!

Ladies Change Room

As you know our locker room has a new floor. I had a peek as the workers were doing the finishing touches. The old carpet is gone and the new floor looks great. It will certainly make cleaning easier & the locker room brighter. Thanks to the Club Committee for this new look.

Finally, best wishes to all taking part in the forthcoming interclub.

Golf and Course Report

Milnerton Newsletter | May 2022

The hollowtining went ahead at the beginning of the month and the greens recovered quickly. The rain were a help and a hindrance but ultimately assisted with the recovery of the greens. I have started to install drainage next to the 18th green and chipping green, hopefully the install will be completed by the 18th of May.

The water situation is much the same with sporadic supply however I was able to fill the dams drained for emergency water supply. The course will still take some time to recover from the lack of water. I will be applying fertilizers to assist with the recovery.

Yours in Golf.
