Hi Fellow MGC Members
As you may know by now, our Captain Colin Jacobs has taken leave of absence and it is now my duty to try and keep you informed. You may not know that as Vice-Captain you are not automatically elected to the Captain Position. This has to be done by the Committee and for my sins, the Committee have voted me in as Acting Captain until such time that our Captain returns. You may wonder why Colin is still doing the Prize Giving on a Saturday – the reason being which I have from good authority is that the Members requested him to do as they enjoy his jokes.??
Regarding the burnt buildings, we are waiting for some permits and hopefully you will see it disappear soon.
Upgrade of the Road, which is my portfolio, I have 3 quotations and we are in the process of adjudicating of same. The only hold up at present is the concern of what damages may be caused by heavy transport while upgrading our dams.
As you are aware we are battling for water during the summer months and this situation is deteriorating every year as Pots Dam is ‘down for repairs’ more than it is operating. We have not received water from them in months therefore going forward we need to increase our existing dams or build a new dam. I will keep you up to date on progress.
We are looking at a long-term plan of upgrading our Clubhouse and had a presentation from one of our Architects on Tuesday and the plans look exciting. Watch this space!!!!!
Our Ladies are hosting the Milnerton Ladies Open Day on the 22nd September. There will be over 100 ladies participating in this event. Come and show your support.
From the 1st September we will have a Company by the name of Loots Golf & Travel who will be running the Driving Range. I request that you give them your full support.
In closing I would like to re-illiterate the importance of filling your divots on the fairways repairing pitch marks on the greens and raking the bunkers after use. We have one of the most beautiful courses in the Country – let’s keep the status by doing what should be done by each and every one of us.
Bob Marley was once asked if there was a perfect woman?
He replied ‘who cares about perfection? Not even the moon is perfect, it’s full of craters. The sea is incredibly beautiful, but salty and dark in the depths. The sky is always infinite, but often cloudy. Therefore, everything that is beautiful is not perfect, it is special. So, every woman can be special to someone. Stop wanting to be perfect, instead try to be free and live doing what you love, without wanting to impress others!!

Enjoy your golf and look after our Course as quoted above – ‘it’s not perfect’ – Quote from Billy O’Brien

Monthly Golf Fixtures & Results

Lady Captain’s Corner
In hindsight I should have wished all our ladies and those in our extended Millies family a happy women’s month in the last newsletter. I do apologise. I hope that not only this month but very month you are loved, you are protected, you are happy & healthy and you are appreciated & recognized.
We had a lovely fun day with a dash of pink in honor of Women’s Month on August 16. It was great to see so many of you & friends. The ladies committee will have more of these fun days sprinkled throughout our golf calendar so keep an eye out for notices.
2022 WP Women’s Mid-Am & Senior Championship
Five (5) of our ladies played in this 36-hole Championship at Atlantic Beach Links on August 7th.
Congratulations to Megan de Vries – she won 2nd place in the Championship Division – Nett. What makes this even more special is that Megan is 8 months pregnant!! How amazing is that!!
Congratulations to Claire Dinnie – she won 4th place in the Silver Division – Senior Gross.
Western Province Lady Captain’s Society
The WP Lady Captain’s Society event was hosted at Milnerton GC on the 22 August. It was well attended and as usual the course looked great. We had a few of our own past Captain’s at the event – Jenny Maliepaard, Ros Howard & Lorette Hegie. I also attended with Vice Captain Judy Teixeira as my guest.
West Coast Challenge
The third leg of the challenge was at Atlantic Beach on 21 August. The Milnerton Ladies team is currently in 3rd place with one more event to go. Good luck ladies!!
League
The Silver Division played their last match at home on the 23rd August. It has been a challenging year but your effort is appreciated.
The Bronze Division halved their match against Parow and still has one more in September.
All the best Bronzies!!

Golf Course Report
Golf course remains in excellent condition. We are looking forward to the growing season and our little projects taking place will start to show further progress.
We are hosting the WP Foresomes Championship on 11 September where we can showcase the course.
My apologies for not being at the club the last few weeks as I have had a very bad flu which have kept me down.
I will be back.
Yours in Golf.
Garreth Johnston

Functions
We would like to say goodbye to our head chef Paul Nienaber who has been with us from 2020. He had spread his wings, and we wish him all the best in his career.
